- Briefly describe the main point or contribution of the article or topic of choice.
- Provide a link to the article.
- Post the tech talk on this blog to receive comments from others, as well as provide comments
- It is best to ask a question in the post so that others can read the article and comment, post other related articles, or so that others can ask their own question(s). The original “poster” has to be available to respond, and commenters need to see how others responded to your comment.
Expectations
Here is a reasonable schedule:
- After the blog is posted, students can comment within a 2-week window.
- If you posted a blog, return back to it to reply to any comments posted. Ok to add any new information and comments on your own post.
- The last day to post and receive comments is before the class ends is April 14, but you can have an extra week until April April 19. Keep in mind that the 3rd deliverable is due that weekend, too.
Grading will be based on the original post (and link) and the question(s) asked. It will also rely on responses to others’ posts, so it is best to check the blog weekly, if not more often. The original post and responses is worth up to 10 points, but you can add points with your comments to others. See the online rubric in Essential Information on D2L for details on this.
- Tone/voice
- You should write your posts in your own style. This might mean being witty, clever, or it could mean being serious and straightforward.
- Yes, you may use first person pronouns if you’d like.
- Your voice may change from post to post as you figure out what works best for you, and that is absolutely fine (even encouraged!).
- You may express your opinions in your posts, but remember that any time you take a side for anything, you need support for your argument. If you just sound off about something you don’t like, it’s not arguing; it’s complaining.
- Images
- Images are not required, but it is okay to use them from time to time. We are largely visual these days, and an image/video helps to engage your audience.
- If you do choose to include an image/video in your post, you should add a caption to cite the source and/or explain its significance.
- Comments
- Be respectful of others even if you disagree with their points.
- Your comments should contribute to the discussion.
